Inside Edition reports that after two short months the Honeymoon is over for Kim Kasdashian and Kris Humphries. US Magazine and Perez Hilton all clang the bell for the demise of the two lovebirds married after a few short months of courtship.
Why do we care?
I find it unbelievable that there are people out there that call this news. They rush to websites to "read" all about it. One media outlet takes the same two sentence press release supposedly quoted by a "close friend" and spins the story to make it read slightly different than their competition. All in the name of ratings.
Why is she famous?
From what I can acertain, she made a sex tape. It became public folly when "someone" sold it to an adult movie distributor. Since this happened to her, I read her mother decided to make lemonade out of lemons and took over marketing her as a brand name to amas their fortune. You have to hand it to Kris Jenner who knows how to make some titilating lemonade.
What can we learn from this?
I think, in my opinion, there is a chance for anyone to achieve fame. I hear of celebrities stating they hail from a hometown in some God foresaken little town south of bum-frick Egypt. Makes you wonder how the hell they ended up famous after kicking around a no name town for the first part of their life. The way I see it is at some point luck pays a great part in it.
But then there's the hard work and homework to consider. At some point a writer had to learn:
- How to Write. Rarely is anyone a natural writer who does everything right the first time out the gate. There's a style and finesse needed to create your own voice. Show don't tell is a mantra to live by.
- The Business of Writing. There's much more to just writing your novel. At some point you have to learn how to sell yourself and your work as an author. There are do's and don't's to follow when approaching professionals in the field that are typeset in stone.
- Promoting Yourself Properly. There are ways to promote and ways to make an ass of yourself. Spamming newsgroups, forums and email Listservs is not the way to go. If you blow too much smoke up your own ass, pretty soon the smoke will surround you and hide your talent.
- Be of Service to Others. This is a hard one for others to grasp. But I believe that when you offer yourself to a group in order to help others, you yourself will benefit in the long run. Sometimes it's easier to turn in toward yourself and keep others at arm's length. But just remember... when you decide to start promoting, it's harder to turn outward after closing yourself off for so long.
We writers are a lonely bunch. Some writers thrive on community while others only need themselves to make it through to publication. I'm one who thrives on being around other writers. I have tried the solitary route and have found my writing and motivation suffers.
In conclusion, I don't believe I'll ever become famous from a sex tape. Heck, that would gross out the general public if this old lady decided to make one. So I better stick to what I know best. Writing. Maybe I'll write about how to make a great glass of lemonade.
